Geographical Information Systems
GIS are software for the storage, manipulation,
mapping and analysis of spatial data. GISc describes the fundamentals of
the computational and operational issues behind the use of GIS. In
essence we are involved in the science of the location. As much data is
spatial in nature, and increasingly so, GIS/GISc has application within
many areas and disciplines and is increasingly more prevalent in our
everyday lives.
National Centre for
Geocomputation
The National Centre for Geocomputation is an Science
Foundation Ireland (SFI)-funded research centre at NUI Maynooth under
the directorship of Prof. Stewart Fotheringham. The centre undertakes
research into the fundamentals of spatial data processing and analysis
and promote the use of Geographical Information Systems (GIS) and
Geographical Information Science (GISc) throughout Ireland.
